Another California

Back in Nashville after a week spent in Los Angeles.  I didn't realize how much I missed it until I landed and smelt the ocean air, and I didn't remember why I left until I sat in traffic for three hours one day.  It was an incredible week.  8 days, 2 music videos, 2 beach days, 1 burrito, a couple beers, and relaxing time spent with my girlfriend and my family.  Amazing!

A lot going on in LA last week.  Had to catch Dave Matthew Band at the Hollywood Bowl!! YEah!

Unbelievable show!  DMB

Me and Alyssa Bonagura also shot music videos with Markku Lahdesmaki while we were there.  2 amazing videos in 2 days!  No worries of weather but there was a forest fire in Bel Air and Brentwood, other than that it was clear skies.  "Another California"  by Julian Jones (COMING SOON) !!

90265 to 37203

On May 10th, 2012 I grabbed my two guitars out of the overhead compartment of a Southwest Airlines flight which had just landed in Nashville,TN.  After 15 years in Los Angeles I had reached my new home.

I visited Nashville in January to do some cowriting and to meet with publishers and producers.  Between the people I met, songs I wrote, and the occasional tornado warning this seemed like an exciting city to be in.

I'm now 3 weeks into my southern adventure.  Writing by day, playing and checking out local talent by night.  It doesn't matter what day of the week it is, there is always someone who knows someone who is playing around town.  I think I have found where I need to be at this point of the musical adventure I call my life.

things gotta get done.

In about a months time I'll have my bags and boxes packed and a one way ticket which reads Nashville, TN in my hand.  As the realization sets in that I will be leaving this beach front city there are a few places, foods, and activities I must experience once more before I head out.  As I complete things on my list I will explain the significance of each.

March 6, 2012 - Comments Off on The Working Class.

The Working Class.

Later this month I'll be returning to The Village Recorder in LA.  This time to record a few new tracks for an upcoming EP release.  Being the perfectionist I try to be and because I'm lucky enough to have some recording equipment at my disposal, this means demo time!

Image

Out of about 20 new tracks that I'm working on, 3 are becoming clear standouts.

My friend and bass player Alex Wright has been helping to finalize production efforts and string compositions.

A good instrument is taller than it's player.
During demo seasons I usually end up giving every instrument a try.  Chopstick piano, blistering drums, and ear-bleeding guitars all got their beginnings this week.

Break guitars to rebuild them.
I cannot wait to start rehearsing with the band in preparation for recording day.  I'll keep y'all posted.

January 30, 2012 - Comments Off on Thank you Nashville.

Thank you Nashville.

From Saturday January 21 through the 28th I got to work in, and explore Nashville, Tennessee.  It was one of the most inspiring cities I have ever seen as an artist/songwriter.  Rain, tornadoes, and smokey bars are just some of the things I saw.
Landed.  In Nashville not 2 hours and I'm told to head to Robert's Western World.  Cowboy boots on the right, burgers and bar on the left.  Happy me in the middle watching a fantastic band.

Saturday night just outside Robert's on Broadway.

Sunday morning on Broadway.  The city sleeps off it's hangover.

CREMA
Panoramic downtown along the Cumberland River.

The Ryman.  Built in 1891.
Ryman Auditorium windows.  Like a church of music.
Gloom.  Storms moving in.  Little did I know what the night would bring.
One of my new favorite TV shows.  I stayed up all night watching the storm from my hotel window, which is exactly what you're NOT supposed to do.

Tornadoes avoided.  Tuesday - New Faces Night at The Basement.  I was in good company.  As a musician Nashville is a scary place to play because everyone is really good.  The city runs on music so you are expected to bring your A game, everyday.

Walking through Belmont/Hillsboro
One of the best burgers I've had.  Bison burger at Burger Up.  Fried Jalapenos and White cheddar.

Exit / In.  The Wall speaks for itself.

Lunch almost daily right next to the hotel.

Wheels up. Nashville Skyline.
Nashville seems like it's an ever growing city.  With construction cranes on almost every corner I am excited to see how the skyline might change every time I go back.  Nashville days seemed never ending. Working everyday and partying every night.  The bar lights never came on and people never seemed tired in the morning.  I am so fortunate that I got to visit.  I met a lot of amazing people, ate amazing food, and heard great music almost every night.  With 3 songs done (written) and countless new ideas and inspirations I had to leave and head home for a bit.  Back to LA LA land.

Happy Holidays Y’all!!!

I have no idea how it is already the Holiday season.  It's kind of hard to get into the spirit of things when your swim trunks are still drying from summer madness.  This is a gift from me to you.  It's a song that I have been playing as an encore for a little while now (Link Below).  Recorded at Moon Shadows West and Mixed by Alex Arias in December 2011.  Hope you have an awesome Holiday and ring in the new year like crazy Wombats.

November 30, 2011 - Comments Off on San Francisco 2011

San Francisco 2011

I'll get into the show details a little later but right now I'm stuck, inspired by the city on my day off. I had an amazing tourist day (4 hours) running through the holiday struck downtown of San Francisco. Had a burger at Macy's and all that, but what really hit me was that I had a few great talks with locals and visitors. Interesting thing for me as I live in LA where people are generally too important to have a conversations. Learned about documentary film making in Columbia, and debated on how long the bar I was in would have the World Champions neon sign on their wall (forever, was the consensus). After the convos at the bar I got back into all the bougie shit I could think of and got on with my day. But here I am at the airport thinking about how great of a talk I had with someone earlier. Refreshing thought. Show was great. More on that when I get some pictures up. Til then.
